Embracing Lunar Energy, Emotional Cycles & Soulful Stillness

In the heart of August, the Full Sturgeon Moon rises—illuminating more than just the night sky. For many, it's simply a beautiful celestial event. But for those of us on the path of conscious living, the Sturgeon Moon invites something deeper: an opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconnect with our inner radiance.
As we begin to move toward the end of summer, this moon reminds us that light doesn’t just come from outside sources—it also comes from within. Through honoring lunar energy, acknowledging our emotional cycles, and leaning into yin practices, we can soften into ourselves and let our inner light gently rise to the surface.
🌕 Why Is It Called the Sturgeon Moon?
The Full Moon in August is traditionally called the Sturgeon Moon, named after the large freshwater fish that were once most abundant in the Great Lakes this time of year. This moon was a signal of abundance and preparation—gathering resources, storing energy, and tuning into the natural rhythms of change.
Energetically, this full moon carries themes of wisdom, strength, inner knowing, and maturity—qualities we may not often associate with summer's vibrant energy, but ones that are vital for soulful growth.
🌊 The Moon & Your Emotional Landscape
Just as the tides respond to the moon, so do we. Our energy ebbs and flows. Our emotions swell and recede.
During a full moon, many of us feel more sensitive, introspective, or even emotionally stirred. Instead of resisting this shift, we can learn to work with it—especially through slow, grounded practices like yin yoga, journaling, and meditation.
The Sturgeon Moon invites us to:
- Reflect on what has come to fruition this summer
- Release what no longer aligns with our energy or values
- Reclaim our softness, stillness, and sovereignty
🧘♀️ A Preview of Our Full Moon Yin Sequence
In our Full Sturgeon Moon beach class on Thursday, August 8 at 7:30 PM at Robert Moses Beach, we’ll practice by the light of the moon with a sequence designed to help you shine gently from within.
Here’s a little preview of the poses you can expect:
- Supported Butterfly – opens the hips and heart while inviting stillness
- Melting Heart – gently stretches the shoulders and upper spine, releasing emotional tension
- Seated Forward Fold with Bolster – invites surrender and inner quiet
- Reclining Twist – detoxifies the body and balances lunar + solar energy
- Savasana under the Sky – feel the earth beneath you and the moon above you, holding you in harmony
Each pose will be held for several minutes with the support of props, soft breath, and guided moon affirmations. No experience needed. Just bring your body, your breath, and your open heart.
🌕 Shine Doesn’t Always Mean Bright
Here’s something we often forget: shining doesn’t always mean being loud, bold, or visible.
Sometimes shining is about being clear. Rooted. Honest. Soft.
Sometimes, it’s about letting yourself rest in your truth—without explanation.
This Full Sturgeon Moon reminds us to honor both the luminous and the quiet parts of ourselves.
To stand in our wisdom.
To soften into who we are.
To rise, not with force, but with deep inner knowing.
