🧘‍♀️ 5 Yoga Poses to Beat the Summer Slump
Cyndy Sotomayor, MBA, CYT200 • June 3, 2025

Feeling sluggish in the summer heat? You’re not alone.

When the days get longer and the temperatures rise, many of us—especially women over 40—experience what I call the summer slump. You might feel fatigued, foggy, or just “off.” But the good news? A few simple yoga poses can make a huge difference.

Here are 5 accessible yoga poses to help you shake off the slump and step into summer feeling refreshed, balanced, and more like yourself.

🌿 1. Legs-Up-The-Wall (Viparita Karani)

Perfect for reducing swelling, calming the nervous system, and giving your heart a break from the heat. This is a fan-favorite in my gentle yoga classes.

☀️ 2. Cat-Cow (Marjaryasana/Bitilasana)

Great for releasing stiffness from sleeping in air-conditioned rooms or lounging on the beach all weekend. It also supports spinal mobility—something we all need more of!

🌀 3. Seated Forward Fold (Paschimottanasana)

This calming fold helps cool the body while gently stretching your lower back and hamstrings.

🌬️ 4. Sitali Pranayama (Cooling Breath)

Technically not a pose, but so powerful. This breathing technique cools your internal temperature and clears the mind.

🌺 5. Supported Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana)

Re-energize your hips and back while staying grounded. Add a block or bolster for extra comfort.

💬 The takeaway: You don’t need a 90-minute class to feel better—just a few minutes on your mat.
